Chery takes the fun to RUN YOUR CITY Jo’burg

Chery takes the fun to RUN YOUR CITY Jo’burg

  • Chery gives Tiggo 4 Pro to one lucky runner
  • Chery Tiggo Pro fleet provide logistics support
  • Fans join in on the #WithCheryWithLove campaign

What do you call a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro being chased by thousands of Jo’burgers?

The Absa Johannesburg Run Your City 10K was hosted successfully this Saturday with a record 12 000 people participating. And Chery showed up as always to not only make sure the event ran smoothly, but also that everyone had fun along the way.

Chery is the SUV and lifestyle partner of the RUN YOUR CITY Series, a set of races through South Africa’s largest cities. The races have been designed to expose runners to some of the unique spots in their hometowns, while competing for a rich purse of prizes.

To make the RUN YOUR CITY Series even more unique, the organisers (Stilwater Sports) and sponsors like Absa and Chery work together to create fun and excitement along the way. This includes live music and high-energy distance markers, where participants can recharge and refresh.

For Chery South Africa, the event is an integral part of its #WithCheryWithLove campaign. Chery has launched this campaign across the world to not only celebrate the Chery lifestyle, but to do good and have fun at the same time.

“We may be one of the youngest Chery markets in the world, but our customers and South Africans in general have taken to the #WithCheryWithLove campaign with the same energy that they do most things,” says Bianca van Staden, Brand and Marketing Manager for Chery South Africa.

Van Staden says that for the RUN YOUR CITY Joburg race, Chery together with Absa and Stillwater Sports, gave away yet another Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. This is the second race in a row where one lucky runner won the keys to their own brand-new Tiggo 4 Pro.

In Durban, the previous RUN YOUR CITY Race, Chery gave the keys to Ziningi Sibisi, a local Durbanite who was still trying to catch her breath at the end of the race when she found out she was the proud owner of a new Chery.

In Johannesburg, Aadil Patel, a recreational runner, was called to the stage and handed the keys to a Chery Tiggo 4 Pro worth R289 900.

While Chery will be best remembered by Patel and the other runners for their rich prize hand-over, they were also very busy behind the scenes to make sure the race was run smoothly. For one, Chery provided the lead time-keeping vehicle and logistics vehicles that were used by officials, medical personnel and other staff members that kept runners safe and on track.

Chery also provided their extensive network of dealers to the organisers for runners to sign up for the race prior to it taking place this weekend.

Lastly, Chery commandeered the well-known actor, Chery driver and fan favourite Armand du Plessis to join them at the race. Armand hosted a competition of his own in the run-up to the race, handing over tickets to the event, sharing fun pictures of red-faced runners and encouraging more Jo’burgers to kick-start their active lifestyles.

Says Van Staden: “When Chery gets involved in an activity, they do it with energy and conviction. We cannot wait for the next RUN YOUR CITY campaign to get more people on the road and who knows, perhaps we will even hand-over yet another Chery Tiggo Pro to a lucky runner.”

Fans of road running can watch highlights of the event on SuperSport and can find fun updates from the race day by searching for #WithCheryWithLove and #RunYourCity on social media.

Chery shows its Heart of Gold to Jozi Fans

Chery shows its Heart of Gold to Jozi Fans

Chery hosted its inaugural #WithCheryWithLove (#WCWL) Customer Event this past weekend (24 July 2022) at Gold Reef City. It welcomed 120 customers and their families who joined the festivities free of charge and welcomed their guests on a red carpet with a whole ensemble of entertainers and musicians in tow.

With Chery With Love is a global fan-driven movement where Chery staff, dealers and fans enjoy time together, share their love for their vehicles and often join hands to help those less fortunate. Chery South Africa and its fans are enthusiastic supporters of this initiative, despite the company being less than one year old in South Africa.

In the past few months, under the With Chery With Love banner, Chery South Africa and its network of supporters have actively collected water, food and other donations for disaster-victims in KwaZulu-Natal, have joined hands with the runners in the popular RUNYOURCITY series and helped one runner to win a Tiggo 4 Pro and have donated food, toys and sweets to orphans for Nelson Mandela Day, to name but a few of the many initiatives.

“We can thank our fans, dealers and the larger Chery family for making the With Chery With Love movement such a success. South Africans are a hearty bunch and always have an open hand for the needy.

“This has ensured that South Africa features high up on the countries that have embraced Chery and its With Chery With Love campaign and it has spurred us on to host many more of these Customer Events across South Africa,” says Bianca van Staden, National Marketing and Brand Manager of Chery South Africa.

For its first event, Chery chose a theme that was befitting of the Johannesburg environment. Guests met at Gold Reef City under the theme “Heart of Gold” and spent the day with the Chery team and a handful of customised Chery Tiggo Pro SUVs.

The day started with a red-carpet welcome, complete with gifts, snacks and entertainment that included a host of special treats for kids.

After the friendly welcome, the guests joined Chery South Africa’s team for an information session on what Chery has done in South Africa, all the benefits that Chery’s owners enjoy and the exciting future of the brand and its products in South Africa.

The morning also included a guided tour of the Gold Reef City mine, complete with a gold pouring demonstration, followed lunch and a special large-scale colouring event where young and old helped to draw and colour a large Johannesburg-themed Chery artwork. This participative art piece will now enjoy pride of place in the Chery South Africa offices.

After all the entertainment, guests were invited to participate in the theme park rides and have some leisure time. The festivities wrapped up with a give-away to the young ones in the audience, before each happy family and Chery friend left with a goodie bag in hand.

“We had so much fun treating our customers and dealers at our very first Customer Event. We will now take to the road to host families across the country at similar events, starting with Cape Town and KwaZulu-Natal.

“Chery fans can keep an eye on our social media channels for dates and times and they are welcome to share their happy Chery experiences using the #WithCheryWithLove tag,” says Van Staden.

Chery makes Nelson Mandela Day memorable for 80 children

Chery makes Nelson Mandela Day memorable for 80 children

A convoy loaded to the brim with goodie bags travelled to Pretoria today to participate in Nelson Mandela Day.

The convoy carried 80 bags of personal hygiene products and an equal number of snack packs with sweets, drinks and other treats. They collected this precious cargo at Chery South Africa’s Head Office in Bryanston for Save the Children in Pretoria as part of their contribution to this unique global day of philanthropy.

The donation to Save the Children is part of a national challenge to Chery dealerships to show their support of Nelson Mandela Day and their local communities. Dealers were invited to come up with unique ideas to support their communities, while Chery’s Head Office in Bryanston, Johannesburg, held its own internal collection drive.

“Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated across the world, and it is a true privilege to be able to support it in South Africa, the home of our late president, and his legacy of charity and leadership.

“In the run-up to Nelson Mandela Day, we asked our fast-growing network of dealers to support their own charities, and we did the same. We see it as part of our broader #WithCheryWithLove initiative, where we are actively building a community around our products,” says Bianca van Staden, National Marketing and Brand Manager of Chery South Africa.

This is not the first, nor the last time, that Chery will support local charity drives. The head office recently joined hands with owners and dealers to collect water and sanitary products for people who have been affected by the floods in KwaZulu-Natal. The collected products were dropped off at Chery dealers in the province who, in turn, used their own Tiggo Pro vehicles to distribute the products to the communities, old age homes and clinics around them.

In similar fashion, Chery used the South African media launch of its Tiggo 7 Pro to drop off donations at deserving charities in Johannesburg. In doing this, they were joined by journalists from across the country who attended the event.

“Chery’s #WithCheryWithLove campaign started small in China and has grown to a global movement that includes Chery dealers as far afield as Qatar, South America, Russia and, of course, South Africa.

“We are extremely proud of what we have achieved under this banner in South Africa in less than a year. Our dealer network, head office staff and most importantly, our Chery owners, have shown why South Africans are known for their charity and sense of community,” says Van Staden.

Save the Children is a global charity that focuses on the promotion of education, healthcare and child protection for needy children. The South African chapter was created in 2013 and has since been actively involved in the advocacy of relevant regulation, awareness of the plight of needy children in South Africa and direct support of children throughout the country.

Durbanite feels the Chery love with brand-new Tiggo

Durbanite feels the Chery love with brand-new Tiggo

The South African – Ziningi Sibisi – was surprised by a call to the beachfront stage after completing the Absa RUN YOUR CITY 10-kilometre race. She received the keys to a Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Urban worth almost R300 000.

Ziningi was one of the hundreds of runners who completed the RUN YOUR CITY race in Durban, a 10-kilometre race through the city organised by Stillwater Sports and supported by Absa and Chery South Africa. Stillwater and Chery co-sponsored the grand prize.

To stand a chance of winning the Tiggo 4 Pro, you simply had to enter the race and complete it. This means that any of the runners waiting at the end of the race stood a fair chance to drive away in the luxury Tiggo Pro.

“We want Chery to be much more than just your car of choice. We want it to be part of your lifestyle,” says Bianca van Staden, National Marketing and Brand Manager of Chery South Africa.

“With this in mind, we made it as simple as possible to stand a chance of winning the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. We also invited anyone in our community to enter the race and gave away a bunch of entries to make sure as many people as possible stood a chance of winning.”

The Absa RUN YOUR CITY road races are some of the most popular series on the road running calendar. The races are designed to introduce citizens in every location to highlights in their city, while creating a vibe all along the route and making it fun for both the runners, their families and supporters and anyone else who happened to join along the route.

“As Chery, we support this funky race series by providing logistics vehicles, the lead vehicle and entertainment along the route. In Durban, for instance, we created a watering point with dancing, music and a horde of supporters to give runners an extra boost for the last stretch of the race,” says Van Staden.

Chery entered South Africa in 2021 and immediately joined the global #WithCheryWithLove movement. This hashtag is the online presence of hundreds of activities by Chery dealers, fans and friends across the globe.

“ #WithCheryWithLove has taken on a life of its own. It includes updates from South African families who have taken to the road with their Tiggo Pro, dealers who have helped in their communities and runners at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY series who shared some road-running love.

“Ultimately, we want to be the brand that makes your active lifestyle possible. We invite all South Africans to share their fun activities and adventures as well as ideas for future Chery events using the #WithCheryWithLove tag,” says Van Staden.

The next Absa RUN YOUR CITY 10-kilometre run will take place on 24 September in Johannesburg.

Tiggo 8 Pro leads global sales growth

Tiggo 8 Pro leads global sales growth

This new record for a Chinese vehicle manufacturer was confirmed after the final production and sales figures were published for April 2022. It represents a year-on-year increase of 12.6% in vehicle exports and reaffirms Chery’s position as China’s leading exporter of vehicles.

According to Chery’s official production, sales and export report, the company sold 55 588 vehicles on local soil and a total of 284 865 vehicles in the four months to April. This is almost 1% better than in the same period last year.

Chery’s sales success is spearheaded by the Tiggo range and particularly by the Tiggo 8 Pro, which has proven popular across the globe for its combination of innovative technology, modern design and proven durability.

The 500 000th current-generation Chery Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 8 Pro were produced on 26 April. It coincided with the group’s launch of the newest version of the model, the Tiggo 8 Pro e+. This model is fitted with Chery’s proprietary DHT Super Hybrid system, which offers best-in-class power and low fuel consumption.

In Chile, ANAC (Asociación Nacional Automotriz de Chile A.G.), the official industry body of the automotive industry, confirmed that Chery grew by 47% in April compared to the same month last year.

Chery has a market share of 17.4% in this market, and the Tiggo 2 Pro has been the top-selling SUV in this market for the past 15 consecutive months.

In Brazil, where Chery is the ninth biggest vehicle brand, the Brazil Fenabrave (National Federation of Distribution of Motor Vehicles) reported that Chery reached total sales of 12 863 in the four months to April.

The Arrizo 6 Pro has proven particularly popular in Brazil. It has a market share of 4.54% and is the fourth most popular vehicle in the sedan segment.

On the African continent, Chery has made waves. In Egypt, Chery’s sales jumped by 121% in April compared to the same month last year and by 27% over March 2022.

“While no manufacturer in the automotive industry has escaped unscathed from the current chip shortage and other COVID-19-related disruptions, Chery has been very proactive in keeping its customers informed and building as many vehicles as possible.

“We trust that when production and supply normalise in the second half of this year, we will see a significant jump in sales and new model introductions, both abroad and in South Africa,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.

RUN YOUR CITY with Chery South Africa

VIEW 6 MONTH FREE INSURANCE OFFER

One innovative brand deserves another, so it is no surprise that Chery South Africa has chosen to sponsor the Absa RUN YOUR CITY series.

The Absa RUN YOUR CITY series is one of the most popular 10 km road race series in South Africa and it has grown exponentially since the first event was held in 2015.

The series has also evolved from road running only to include a number of mountain bike, trail running and women only races with additional sponsorships from brands such as Savannah, THIRSTI, Fedhealth and Totalsports.

RUN YOUR CITY was created by Michael Meyer and the team at Stillwater Sports.

The first event kicked off last weekend with a 10 km run through Cape Town city. This race, like every other event in the series, has been created to be flat and fast and to travel past well-known landmarks, with entertainment and live performances along the way.

“It is a pleasure to announce this association. We believe that mass participation events such as the Absa RUN YOUR CITY series, is enjoyed by all in South Africa. Chery wants to make a difference in South Africa and wishes to create memorable experiences for all South Africans,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.

Chery’s participation in the RUN YOUR CITY series includes the provision of lead and logistical support vehicles and a massive vehicle display for competitors and their friends and family at the registration stations and at the start and finish.

“We were immediately impressed with the team at Stillwater Sports. They have a fresh outlook on outdoor events and believe in quality and professionalism, which are two of our core qualities at Chery South Africa,” says Bianca van Staden, National Marketing and Brand Manager of Chery South Africa.

“We also love the events for their focus on an active lifestyle. Our model range consists exclusively of SUVs, and we believe that your car should enable your active family lifestyle. This is why we decided to sponsor and support the RUN YOUR CITY series,” says Van Staden.

A detailed list of the upcoming events, both for cyclists and runners, is available at runyourcityseries.com. Chery South Africa will also keep the public up to date on its social media channels.

Chery has also announced that it has secured a number of tickets and other event-related prizes as part of its sponsorship agreement.

It will share these tickets with customers through the popular #WithCheryWithLove platform as a way of both rewarding its customers and encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle.

“We want to share in each and every customer journey, and take them along on ours,” says Van Staden.

Five in a row for Chery at the Quality Olympics

Representatives of Chery’s Quality Control and Vehicle Development divisions were called to the stage at this year’s Quality Olympics to receive a Gold Medal, their fifth in a row, for their contribution to the science of vehicle quality.

The Quality Olympics, as it is informally known in the automotive and engineering world, is officially called the International Convention on Quality Control Circles (ICQCC). This year’s event was held in Hyderabad in India and was attended by 5 000 delegates, both digitally and in person.

The ICQCC originated in the 1970s as a way of standardising quality rules and regulations and sharing the best practices between countries and regions.

Since its start, the ICQCC has become the de facto voice on quality standards and it is supported by organisations such as the China Association for Quality, Singapore Productivity Association, Japan Alliance for Science and Technology, and Korea Standardisation Association.

The 2021 Conference in Hyderabad was no exception and representatives from across the world, including the United States, South Korea, Japan, India and China attended talks, workshops and various presentations on cutting edge research in the field of quality.

One such research presentation was from the Quality Control team at Chery.

The presentation was themed “Reducing vehicle jitter in the development stage of new models”. It focussed on the small and often imperceptible jitter or shudder in some new vehicles, which often point to an unrefined drivetrain and which, according to Chery, is best dealt with in the design phase, rather than in the workshop.

The presentation documented Chery’s own efforts to overcome some inherent mechanical challenges that are natural in all vehicles to drive down their jitter failure rate to only 0.25%. This not only signals a very refined and well-designed drivetrain, but also ensures greatly improved driving quality in all conditions and all stages of the vehicle’s life.

Chery presented their work in this field to delegates at the ICQCC and published a technical paper, which documents their research, results and suggested improvements to the benefit of the entire industry.

“Chery has always taken the user-centred approach to improve the product and marketing experience, and constantly improves user satisfaction.

“In the 2021 China Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) report released by JD Power, the Chery Tiggo 2 Pro topped the list of Chinese mini-SUVs by an significant margin, reflecting Chery’s ultra-high quality,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.

With its fifth ICQCC Gold Medal in hand, Chery will continue to focus on developing the best possible quality in its cars and SUVs.

This will no doubt help it to sustain its incredible growth across international markets as it has done this year.

Chery increased vehicle exports by 145,7% in the first eight months of this year compared to the same period last year and thereby set a new overall record of 212 959 vehicles exported from China in a single year.

Chery accelerates technological advancement with Chery 4.0

[rev_slider alias=”home-slider-11-1-1″][/rev_slider]

Chery has reaffirmed its commitment to developing and improving on all types of vehicle propulsion with the recent launch of its Chery 4.0 programme.

Named Chery 4.0 Full-field Power Architecture for its reference to four distinct types of propulsion, the programme commits Chery and its thousands of research and development engineers to the development of fuel, hybrid, pure electric and hydrogen power plants. This programme will run from 2021 to 2030.

“The most important part of this new promise of technological development is our commitment to development. Put differently, we are not simply saying that we will continue to manufacture these four distinct types of propulsion, but we will improve on them at every step,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.

Liu explains that, for instance, in the case of internal combustion and hybrid engines, Chery has been able to increase these engines’ thermal efficiency to 45%. Not only is this level of thermal efficiency well above the industry standard, but it also allowed Chery to offer fuel savings compared to traditional engines and first-generation hybrid systems, by up to 95%.

Chery’s single-minded commitment to developing the best possible propulsion systems was recognised at this year’s China Heart Engine Awards.

China Heart is considered one of the three most authoritative engine awards, alongside the Ward Top Ten Engine Awards and the International Engine of the Year Awards. It has been held for the past 16 years and have featured 9 of Chery’s proprietary engines in the Top 10 Awards.

This year, the awards went one step further by picking the new Chery 2.0T GDI engine as its overall winner.

This petrol engine uses Chery’s second-generation i-HEC combustion system and an ultra-high direct injection system of 350 bars to deliver an impressive 192 kW and 400 Nm of torque. Importantly, the engine has a maximum thermal efficiency of 41%, making it one of the most efficient and strongest pound-for-pound engines in the competition and arguably in the world.

The winning 2.0T GDI engine follows earlier news that Chery has set a new standard for a full hybrid system.

This new Chery Hybrid System uses three electric motors to offer full four-wheel drive, a 0-100 km acceleration in less than five seconds and an average fuel consumption figure of less than 1 litre per 100 km.

The Chery Hybrid system has nine distinct working modes and 11 combined gears for the most optimal performance in any situation.

“With so many innovations, real-world performance and fuel consumption figures that have rarely been seen before and the promise of even more innovation in the new future, Chery has earned the moniker of ‘Technological Chery’ in China. We look forward to showcasing these technologies to our South African customers,” says Liu.

A range of new internal combustion, hybrid and electric options is available on the Tiggo 8 Pro, which is also earmarked for South Africa in 2022.

Art in Motion – the Chery OMODA 5

[rev_slider alias=”home-slider-11-1″][/rev_slider]

  • OMODA 5 reveals Art in Motion design language
  • Platform is future proof and ready for all propulsion technologies
  • New crossover confirmed for global release, including SA, Europe and Australia

Chery has lifted the veil off the production version of its much-anticipated OMODA5 Crossover SUV – and it is destined for South Africa.

The new OMODA 5 was unveiled to great applause at Auto Guangzhou 2021. It introduces a new design language for Chery and symbolises its ambition to create vehicles that successfully cross over between stunning design, leading technology and a truly rewarding driving experience.

Art in Motion

One of the main reasons for the very positive reception of the OMODA 5 is its bold and beautiful design language that deviates little from the first concept models that Chery penned to showcase the Art in Motion design language.

“There are few other industries that have the opportunity to combine beautiful design and mechanical performance like the automotive industry,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager, Chery South Africa.

“Unfortunately, motorists who have been enticed by beautiful and futuristic designs from motor shows are left with very watered-down designs when these designs reach the showroom floor. We are changing that with models like the OMODA 5.”

At the heart of the Art in Motion design philosophy is the idea that a design that is functional can also be incredibly beautiful. And the design has to be touched and seen from outside and experienced behind the wheel.

As such, the OMODA 5 has extremely smooth lines that appear almost liquid, while also introducing a few design firsts to the crossover segment.

These design firsts include a smart play between light and shadow in the flowing and integrated diamond matrix grille that is seamlessly integrated into the front design and that flows almost imperceptibly to the split front LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights.

The same applies to the glasshouse, where the smooth integration between the front windscreen and glossy A-pillars creates a borderless design that is repeated on the side windows and at the rear.

The flowing lines continue unbroken across the side profile and terminate in two distinct rear wings, one at the edge of the roofline and another that integrates the arrow-shaped rear lights. These were designed to lead the eye beyond the vehicle itself and create a promise of movement and an invitation to the driver to get behind the wheel.

Colour blocking

In another page from Chery’s book on Art in Motion is the tasteful and unique use of colour blocking on the exterior design.

A contrasting or complementary second colour is used to highlight some of the most characterful lines to create a bit of visual tension with the otherwise flowing design. This can be seen in the strong line below the doors, in the highlights on the slim side mirrors, in the wheels and, depending on the model, in the flowing roofline and uppermost spoiler.

Welcome inside

The interior of the OMODA 5 promises to be a treat for the eyes as much as the exterior is.

Two integrated and curved 10.25” high-definition digital screens take centre stage and will provide all vehicle and entertainment information, while also offering easy and intuitive controls of driving, comfort and entertainment settings.

The driver and front passenger can expect integrated sport front seats. As is the standard with all Chery vehicles, the cabin will offer a comprehensive list of the most modern technologies and creature comforts.

Every and any power source

One of the clearest indications of Chery’s ambition to become a technological leader is not immediately visible from outside or inside the cabin.

The OMODA 5 platform, being one of the first new models to ride on Chery’s next generation architecture, is immediately ready for both internal combustion engines and new-generation propulsion, such as hybrid, electric or hydrogen systems.

This new platform honours the promise made by Chery of advancing all types of propulsion technologies, including petrol, diesel and electric power.

The OMODA 5’s platform also meets global 5-star safety ratings, proving that performance and adaptability do not have to come at the expense of safety or structural integrity.

“It is very heartening to know that the OMODA 5, like every other new Chery, will be future-proof and that we can support every type of customer requirement, whether that is for powerful and frugal petrol and diesel engines or for quiet and comfortable electric or other propulsion systems,” says Liu.

The Chery OMODO 5 is expected in South Africa in late-2022.

First impressions last – Chery launches Tiggo 4 Pro

[rev_slider alias=”home-slider-11″][/rev_slider]

  • Urban, Comfort, Elite and SE spec levels offer something for everyone
  • Normally aspirated and turbo engines available
  • 1-million-kilometre engine warranty added free of charge!

Chery is entering the compact SUV segment – arguably one of the country’s most hotly contested segments – with a winning combination of style, luxury, and performance.

The company launched the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro with a choice of two petrol engines, three transmissions and three different specification levels. A Special Edition tops the range and adds even more luxury to the standard Urban, Comfort and Elite models.

“There has been a lot of anticipation for the official entry of Chery Automotive to South Africa. We believe that the Tiggo 4 Pro is the perfect foil with which to enter this market, thanks to its highly competitive price positioning, it‘s high specification level and its head-turning design,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.

Designed to turn heads

There will be no mistaking the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro for any other compact SUV on local roads.

The new model is the flag bearer of Chery’s new design language and proudly carries the Chery logo and large hexagonal grille with unique diamond pattern.

The grille is designed with a multitude of diamond-shaped holes, which narrow towards the logo at the top of the grille to create a three-dimensional effect. Each individual diamond is fitted with chrome brightwork to give the Tiggo 4 Pro a distinct upmarket look and road presence.

The grille is flanked by automatic headlamps – standard across the range – and LED daytime running lights. The lights – halogen on normally aspirated models and LED on turbo models – are contained in clear housings with a bright background dubbed the Chery Crystal Diamond lens design.

A muscular bonnet with strong creases and a lower mounted bumper with additional air intakes and a faux strike plate design round off the top and bottom of the front design.

On the flanks, the Tiggo 4 Pro has deeply sculpted creases above a moulded side skirt, with equally sculpted creases over the front fender and flowing from the rear door handles over the rear fender. These design elements and the standard integrated roof rails combine to create a dynamic and sporty design.

It is worth noting that all models have electrically adjustable side mirrors with integrated LED turn signals, while Elite models’ mirrors can also electrically fold inwards in tight spaces.

At the rear, the LED rear lights are housed in sculpted housings that are hollowed out in the middle for a three-dimensional visual effect and to house the brake and main lights and dual rear fog lamps. A chrome strip and large Chery logo connect the rear lights that are fitted above a faux strike plate and dual chromed exhaust outlets.

A high-level LED brake light bar, roof mounted antenna fin and spoiler round off the rear design.

The Chery Tiggo Pro 4 will be fitted with alloy wheels across the range. The Urban and Comfort models are shod with 215/65 rubber on 16-inch alloy wheels, while the Elite and Elite Special Edition (SE) models have 17-inch machined alloy wheels with a dark chrome finish and 215/60 tyres.

Ground clearance varies between 170 mm and 180 mm, depending on the choice of wheel and tyre.

Proprietary petrol performance

Before climbing into the luxury cabin of the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro, it is worth noting that customers will have the option of two in-house designed 1.5 litre, four-cylinder petrol engines.

The Urban and Comfort specification grades offer the normally aspirated 1.5 litre engine, with 83 kW at 6 150 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4 000 rpm. In the case of the Urban grade, the power is delivered to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The Comfort model is fitted with Chery’s smooth, continuously variable transmission with paddle shifts for manual override mode.

Customers who opt to step up to the Elite and Elite SE model grade have the choice of either a manual transmission with six speeds or the CVT transmission. These models also replace the normally aspirated four-cylinder for a powerful 1.5 turbo-petrol engine.

The Chery 1.5T delivers 108 kW at 5 500 rpm and a maximum torque of 210 in a wide engine speed band between 1 750 rpm and 4 000 rpm.

CVT models fitted with the turbo-petrol engine also have a special Driving Mode selection between Standard, Economical (Eco) and Sport and accompanying steering adjustment modes between Eco and Sport.

Adding to the Tiggo 4’s pedigree are ABS and Electronic Brake Force equipped disk brakes all round with an electronic parking brake, as well as a full complement of electronic vehicle safety systems. These include Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Traction Control (TCS), Roll Stability Control (RCS), Hill Descent Control (HDC) and Hill Assist. All these features are standard across the range.

Digital luxury abounds

While the design and performance of the Tiggo 4 Pro will hold its own in a very crowded SUV market, the interior luxury is what will make it truly stand out.

All Tiggo 4 Pro models have a digital instrument cluster with multi-information readout. On the normally aspirated models, this screen is 3.5” wide with high-definition colours.

The turbo models swop this digital cluster for one double its size. The 7” version not only increases the information real estate, but it offers more display and customisation options, including displaying more information from the mobile phone.

What doesn’t differ between any of the Tiggo 4 Pro models is the beautiful, fast and touch-responsive 10.25” central infotainment system. This system is equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two USB ports in the front and one in the rear, a DVD player and Bluetooth hands-free connectivity. This system also displays the image from the reverse camera on all but the entry-level Urban model.

In the normally aspirated Urban and Comfort models, the infotainment system is linked to four speakers, while the Elite versions add two more speakers for a more immersive sound experience.

Elite versions also have intelligent voice control built in, with a special semantic processing system that understands many different accents and pronunciations.

Urban and Comfort models are further fitted with a high-output air conditioning system, while the Elite models exchange this for a dual-zone climate control system and standard sunroof. All models have rear air conditioning ducts and are fitted with a sensitive clean-air filter system.[i]

Lastly, the Elite models have full leather upholstery with an electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

A truly Special Edition

While all models, and especially the Elite models, have a very high level of standard equipment and luxuries, the Elite SE makes no compromises.

Stylistically, the SE model adds red detailing on the exterior design. Coupled with both the standard and metallic colours, this red detailing above the front and rear skid plates on the side skirts and the brake callipers ensure that the Tiggo 4 Pro SE stands out from even its siblings.

Inside the cabin, Chery has repeated the red detailing in the contrasting stitching, the door handles and the lower section of the dashboard. Discreet, adjustable, and multi-colour LED lighting inside the cabin is also added as standard to this model.

Rounding off the SE package are puddle lights in the side mirrors and special threshold welcome lights for the driver and front passenger.

Safety and security built in

All Chery models offer a high level of passive and dynamic safety.

All models have all the electronic safety equipment mentioned earlier, including TRC and ESP.

All models also offer keyless access and a Start / Stop button. The Tiggo 4 Pro will lock and unlock automatically as you approach or leave the vehicle, and doors will lock automatically as you drive away.

All models also have a child lock system, a vehicle immobiliser and alarm system and at least two airbags. Elite models are further equipped with front side and curtain airbags for a total of six. These models also have a tyre pressure monitoring system for additional dynamic safety.

Unmatched peace of mind

To add additional peace of mind to customers who opt for one of the modern and stylish Tiggo 4 Pro models, Chery has announced an unmatched 10-year / 1-million-kilometre engine warranty (see separate release).

All Chery Tiggo 4 Pro models are also sold with a 5 year / 60 000 km service plan as standard.
