Chery makes Nelson Mandela Day memorable for 80 children

Chery makes Nelson Mandela Day memorable for 80 children

A convoy loaded to the brim with goodie bags travelled to Pretoria today to participate in Nelson Mandela Day.

The convoy carried 80 bags of personal hygiene products and an equal number of snack packs with sweets, drinks and other treats. They collected this precious cargo at Chery South Africa’s Head Office in Bryanston for Save the Children in Pretoria as part of their contribution to this unique global day of philanthropy.

The donation to Save the Children is part of a national challenge to Chery dealerships to show their support of Nelson Mandela Day and their local communities. Dealers were invited to come up with unique ideas to support their communities, while Chery’s Head Office in Bryanston, Johannesburg, held its own internal collection drive.

“Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated across the world, and it is a true privilege to be able to support it in South Africa, the home of our late president, and his legacy of charity and leadership.

“In the run-up to Nelson Mandela Day, we asked our fast-growing network of dealers to support their own charities, and we did the same. We see it as part of our broader #WithCheryWithLove initiative, where we are actively building a community around our products,” says Bianca van Staden, National Marketing and Brand Manager of Chery South Africa.

This is not the first, nor the last time, that Chery will support local charity drives. The head office recently joined hands with owners and dealers to collect water and sanitary products for people who have been affected by the floods in KwaZulu-Natal. The collected products were dropped off at Chery dealers in the province who, in turn, used their own Tiggo Pro vehicles to distribute the products to the communities, old age homes and clinics around them.

In similar fashion, Chery used the South African media launch of its Tiggo 7 Pro to drop off donations at deserving charities in Johannesburg. In doing this, they were joined by journalists from across the country who attended the event.

“Chery’s #WithCheryWithLove campaign started small in China and has grown to a global movement that includes Chery dealers as far afield as Qatar, South America, Russia and, of course, South Africa.

“We are extremely proud of what we have achieved under this banner in South Africa in less than a year. Our dealer network, head office staff and most importantly, our Chery owners, have shown why South Africans are known for their charity and sense of community,” says Van Staden.

Save the Children is a global charity that focuses on the promotion of education, healthcare and child protection for needy children. The South African chapter was created in 2013 and has since been actively involved in the advocacy of relevant regulation, awareness of the plight of needy children in South Africa and direct support of children throughout the country.
