Chery takes the fun to RUN YOUR CITY Jo’burg

Chery takes the fun to RUN YOUR CITY Jo’burg

  • Chery gives Tiggo 4 Pro to one lucky runner
  • Chery Tiggo Pro fleet provide logistics support
  • Fans join in on the #WithCheryWithLove campaign

What do you call a Chery Tiggo 7 Pro being chased by thousands of Jo’burgers?

The Absa Johannesburg Run Your City 10K was hosted successfully this Saturday with a record 12 000 people participating. And Chery showed up as always to not only make sure the event ran smoothly, but also that everyone had fun along the way.

Chery is the SUV and lifestyle partner of the RUN YOUR CITY Series, a set of races through South Africa’s largest cities. The races have been designed to expose runners to some of the unique spots in their hometowns, while competing for a rich purse of prizes.

To make the RUN YOUR CITY Series even more unique, the organisers (Stilwater Sports) and sponsors like Absa and Chery work together to create fun and excitement along the way. This includes live music and high-energy distance markers, where participants can recharge and refresh.

For Chery South Africa, the event is an integral part of its #WithCheryWithLove campaign. Chery has launched this campaign across the world to not only celebrate the Chery lifestyle, but to do good and have fun at the same time.

“We may be one of the youngest Chery markets in the world, but our customers and South Africans in general have taken to the #WithCheryWithLove campaign with the same energy that they do most things,” says Bianca van Staden, Brand and Marketing Manager for Chery South Africa.

Van Staden says that for the RUN YOUR CITY Joburg race, Chery together with Absa and Stillwater Sports, gave away yet another Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. This is the second race in a row where one lucky runner won the keys to their own brand-new Tiggo 4 Pro.

In Durban, the previous RUN YOUR CITY Race, Chery gave the keys to Ziningi Sibisi, a local Durbanite who was still trying to catch her breath at the end of the race when she found out she was the proud owner of a new Chery.

In Johannesburg, Aadil Patel, a recreational runner, was called to the stage and handed the keys to a Chery Tiggo 4 Pro worth R289 900.

While Chery will be best remembered by Patel and the other runners for their rich prize hand-over, they were also very busy behind the scenes to make sure the race was run smoothly. For one, Chery provided the lead time-keeping vehicle and logistics vehicles that were used by officials, medical personnel and other staff members that kept runners safe and on track.

Chery also provided their extensive network of dealers to the organisers for runners to sign up for the race prior to it taking place this weekend.

Lastly, Chery commandeered the well-known actor, Chery driver and fan favourite Armand du Plessis to join them at the race. Armand hosted a competition of his own in the run-up to the race, handing over tickets to the event, sharing fun pictures of red-faced runners and encouraging more Jo’burgers to kick-start their active lifestyles.

Says Van Staden: “When Chery gets involved in an activity, they do it with energy and conviction. We cannot wait for the next RUN YOUR CITY campaign to get more people on the road and who knows, perhaps we will even hand-over yet another Chery Tiggo Pro to a lucky runner.”

Fans of road running can watch highlights of the event on SuperSport and can find fun updates from the race day by searching for #WithCheryWithLove and #RunYourCity on social media.

Chery celebrates its first birthday with massive prize draw

Chery celebrates its first birthday with massive prize draw

  • Everyone invited to a test drive at their nearest dealer
  • Chery to pick a random winner for a grand prize
  • Luxury weekend away for two worth R45 000 on the cards

The Chinese manufacturer of luxury SUVs has launched a three-month birthday celebration campaign that will involve every one of its 60 dealers and every South African that have imagined themselves behind the wheel of a Chery.

The campaign was launched on Thursday 19 September in preparation for Chery’s first birthday in November. It will run for three months and will include a massive prize for one lucky Chery test driver.

“It is hard to believe that Chery only turns one year old in November. From humble beginnings last year, the brand has grown beyond everyone’s expectations and become a top 10 passenger vehicle brand in eight months.

“In true Chery style, we want to celebrate this by involving all our dealers, our customers and everyone that want to test drive a Chery. And of course, the birthday gift will be for a customer or potential customer!” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.

The campaign is simple and fun.

Anyone interested in getting behind the wheel of a Chery Tiggo Pro are invited to visit their nearest Chery dealership.

Here, a sales representative will be more than willing to take them on the road in the Chery of their choice and show them all the features that have made the entire range so sought after.

After the test drive, the person will be invited to take a selfie at the car and upload it on a dedicated page on the Chery South Africa website (chery.co.za).

Chery will share and celebrate each selfie on its social pages from September to November and then, at the end of the three-month campaign, pick a random person to win an all-expenses paid trip to a luxury hotel in the heart of the bushveld.

“Every campaign that Chery has launched in the last nine months have been focussed on recognising and rewarding customers. This campaign will be no exception and will count among our richest rewards to date,” says Bianca an Staden, National Marketing and Brand Manager of Chery South Africa.

The prize includes an all-expenses trip to the Kruger National Park in a Chery Tiggo Pro to stay at the posh Kruger Shelati, the converted five-star train hotel on the bridge in the Kruger. The stay includes two nights for two people, all drinks meals and even a spa and several game drives. Chery will add fuel to the value of R5 000 to boot!

“The prize is valued at R45 000 and it is available to anyone who tests a Chery and uploads their selfie onto our website. We will celebrate each upload and every entry will qualify for a place in the lucky draw,” says Van Staden.

Chery upgrades three Tiggo 4 Pro models

Chery upgrades three Tiggo 4 Pro models

7
September
2022
  • Cloth interior replaced with vegan leather
  • 6 airbags standard across range
  • Elite SE now with ADAS suite

Customers have spoken, and Chery has listened.

“In November this year, we will celebrate the first full year of sales, but we did not wait for this milestone to collect feedback from our customers. Instead, we have been on the road with dealers and customers to find out what they like, what they would like to change and what we could offer more,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager, Chery South Africa.

Liu says that the first example of Chery South Africa’s responsiveness to customers can be seen in the three new models – a new Tiggo 4 Pro Urban, a new Tiggo 4 Comfort and a top-specified Tiggo 4 Elite SE.

The three models have been added to the range under the MY2022 model code, and they will soon phase out any existing Urban, Comfort and Elite SE models. This means that the range will still consist of five distinct models, starting with a five-speed Tiggo 4 Urban and peaking at the Tiggo 4 Pro Elite SE with a nine-step CVT transmission.

Tiggo 4 Pro Urban

As the entry-level model into the Tiggo 4 Pro range and the world of Chery, the Tiggo 4 Pro Urban is one of the best-selling models in the range.

For the new model year, and based on feedback from customers, Chery South Africa has upgraded the interior and added a number of safety features.

To start, the cloth interior has been replaced by vegan leather. This upholstery is added to the seats, steering and the door inlays. This new luxury trim is further enhanced with the addition of a central front armrest, adjustable rear headrests and an in-built coat rack.

As a final addition to the comfort features, Chery has replaced the front driver’s seat adjustment with a new six-way manual adjustment system. This is a brand-new addition to both the Urban and Comfort trim levels.

Chery has also boosted the number of airbags from two to six, with the addition of front side airbags for the occupants and roof mounted side airbags that run the length of the cabin. This means that the entire Chery Tiggo 4 Pro range now has six airbags as standard.

Further adding to the impressive safety credentials, Chery has fitted a new-generation pre-tensioning system to both front seatbelts and a seatbelt reminder to the front passenger seat.

The Urban specification level now also has remote locking that will, when the key is pressed for longer, also close any open windows. This means the entire Tiggo 4 Pro range has this feature as standard.

Also standard across the entire Tiggo 4 Pro range (and brand new in the Urban and Comfort ranges) is a digital tyre pressure monitoring system.
Lastly, Chery has responded to customer demand to add Voice Command as standard on the Urban.

“Chery’s Voice Command system has been one of the most popular features across our Tiggo Pro ranges. From asking your Chery to open the window to simply asking ‘What can you do, Chery?’, this system has been a treat for customers, and we have decided to give it as standard to all customers, including of the Tiggo 4 Pro Urban entry-level model,” says Liu.

Chery Tiggo 4 Comfort

The Tiggo 4 Pro Comfort is the step up from the entry-level Urban model, and it has the additional benefit of being equipped with a continuously variable transmission with nine pre-programmed transmission steps.

In the new model, Chery has added the same features as on the Urban, which include vegan leather across the entire interior, six airbags in the place of two, remote locking with auto window closing, a new multi-adjustable driver’s seat and Voice Command.

Tiggo 4 Pro Elite SE

As the flagship in the range, the Tiggo 4 Pro Elite SE is a true showcase of the luxury and technology that Chery has on offer in the compact premium segment.

For the new season, Chery will retain all the luxuries that were standard in the SE and also add a full array of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Included in the ADAS suite is a radar-guidance system that is flush-mounted in the front of the vehicle.

Using the radar and other related technologies, Chery is able to offer features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, a Pre-Collision Warning system that monitors traffic flow and pre-empts emergency braking or evasive manoeuvres, and Lane-keep and Lane Departure Warning systems.

Chery has also, for good measure, added a complete 360 degree around-view monitor system. The system uses a camera array to make a composite bird’s eye view of the vehicle, allowing the driver to safely and easily manoeuvre in even the tightest of spaces.

All-in

It is worth noting that even without the recent safety, luxury and technology upgrades, the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro was already considered one of the most feature-packed compact luxury SUVs in South Africa.

All Tiggo 4 Pro models are equipped with a large high-definition 10.25” infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto fitted as standard.

The entire Tiggo 4 Pro range also has Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, electric windows all-round, air conditioning (climate control on the turbo-powered models) and a complete array of LED daytime running lights.

The new Chery Tiggo 4 Pro models are available immediately across the entire Chery network, which has doubled from 30 outlets at the time of launch to over 60 dealers at the moment.

Chery OMODA 5 on show at FOM
First appearance of fashionable next generation Chery in Africa
OMODA 5 confirmed for South African introduction

The new SUV was confirmed for its first viewing on the African continent as part of Chery’s display at Kyalami. It is expected to draw the same masses of adoring car lovers as it has done at auto shows across the world.

“The OMODA 5 is the next step for Chery, both here and worldwide. It will be the first vehicle to showcase our new ‘Art in Motion’ design language and will be fitted with some of the most modern performance and luxury technologies that the automotive industry has to offer,” says Tony Liu, Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.

The OMODA 5 is not simply an evolution of the Chery design language. Instead, it leaps ahead into a new era of light and shade, deeply sculpted dynamic lines and a heady mix of style and technology that Chery has dubbed Art in Motion.

From outside, the OMODA 5 looks like no other sport SUV. It has a uniquely sculpted grille with stacked headlights and LED running lights that were angled to capture light and shade from any angle. In fact, the designers have created lines on both the horizontal and vertical planes that are designed to reflect on each other to delight and amaze onlookers.

The OMODA 5’s centrepiece grille sets the scene for a visual treat of dynamic and ultra-modern lines, including a sharply creased hip line, dual stacked rear spoiler, light bar rear light system with a stacked light cluster design that simulates a barcode.

Inside, the OMODA 5 takes its cue from the world of high-performance SUVs, with body hugging sport seats, dual tone leather trim with contrasting stitching, aluminium seat inserts and a sporty and dynamic steering wheel and cockpit.

In the luxurious cabin, the Chery designers have also used the interplay of light and shadow to create a feeling of futuristic luxury.

“The OMODA 5 will whet South Africans’ appetite for the next generation of sporty and luxurious SUVs. Not only will it have every conceivable luxury and intelligent safety feature as standard, but it will be ready for future propulsion technologies, such as hybrid, electric and even hydrogen power,” says Liu.

Chery has introduced the Tiggo 4 Pro, Tiggo 7 Pro and flagship Tiggo 8 Pro in recent months, and it has become so popular that Chery has reached a Top 10 position in South African vehicle sales in record time (less than 1 year).

“Our feedback from dealers and customers show that they truly love our combination of style, technology, performance and our industry-leading 10 year / 1-million-kilometre warranty and peace of mind. We have been in South Africa for less than a year, but we already feel well at home and cannot wait to show our newest models to car fans and customers at the Festival of Motoring.”

The 2022 Festival of Motoring is scheduled for 26 – 28 August at Kyalami in Gauteng.

Chery becomes a top 10 brand in South Africa

Chery becomes a top 10 brand in South Africa

  • Chery reports sales figures from July 2022
  • Total sales of 1 262 vehicles make it a Top 10 passenger vehicle brand

South Africa has a new Top 10 passenger vehicle brand – Chery!

Chery South Africa has officially reported its sales numbers to naamsa, the automotive business council, for the first time in July 2022. This is a mere eight months after it introduced its first SUV – the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro – in the local market.

According to naamsa, Chery’s sales of 1 262 new Tiggo Pro models in July make it the eighth most popular passenger vehicle brand in the country.
Chery entered the new vehicle market in late November 2021 with the Tiggo 4 Pro range. This model range remains the most popular in the Chery line-up thanks to its highly competitive entry price and unmatched level of specifications.

The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro joined the line-up in late February 2022, and the newest addition, the Tiggo 7 Pro, only landed on showroom floors in May 2022.

In July, the Tiggo 4 Pro range represented 689 units of the total 1 262 units sold. This ranks it in the top five best-selling SUVs in its segment. In total volume, it is followed by the Tiggo 7 Pro (372 units) and the flagship Tiggo 8 Pro (201 units). Both these luxury SUVs now rank first in their respective segments, based on sales.

“Chery’s sales performance is a tribute to our dealer network, which has been our greatest ambassador and which has been exemplary in its treatment of our Chery customers,” says Jay Jay Botes, National Sales Manager of Chery South Africa.

According to Botes, all of Chery’s sales were made through the dealer network and not as bulk sales to fleet or rental companies. This means that the total sales figure is a perfect representation of Chery’s acceptance by South African motorists.

“We realise that South Africans are under significant economic pressure and that they need the best possible value for money when buying a vehicle. That is why we have put so much effort into creating our 1-million-kilometre mechanical warranty and our best-in-class list of luxury and safety specifications in every Tiggo Pro,” says Botes.

Botes explains that Chery has extended its support of South African customers to also include previous Chery owners.

Chery South Africa launched a special Legacy Customer Campaign in April this year. It has since actively invited customers who purchased a vehicle from an importer before Chery entered the market to join the Chery family and have their vehicles safely and comprehensively serviced at their local Chery dealer.

“We look forward to welcoming more people to the Chery brand as our network of dealers grows further and as we introduce more models to the Chery range,” says Botes.

Chery currently has 60 dealers and it will soon announce new dealers and expand to neighbouring countries in Africa.

Chery shows its Heart of Gold to Jozi Fans

Chery shows its Heart of Gold to Jozi Fans

Chery hosted its inaugural #WithCheryWithLove (#WCWL) Customer Event this past weekend (24 July 2022) at Gold Reef City. It welcomed 120 customers and their families who joined the festivities free of charge and welcomed their guests on a red carpet with a whole ensemble of entertainers and musicians in tow.

With Chery With Love is a global fan-driven movement where Chery staff, dealers and fans enjoy time together, share their love for their vehicles and often join hands to help those less fortunate. Chery South Africa and its fans are enthusiastic supporters of this initiative, despite the company being less than one year old in South Africa.

In the past few months, under the With Chery With Love banner, Chery South Africa and its network of supporters have actively collected water, food and other donations for disaster-victims in KwaZulu-Natal, have joined hands with the runners in the popular RUNYOURCITY series and helped one runner to win a Tiggo 4 Pro and have donated food, toys and sweets to orphans for Nelson Mandela Day, to name but a few of the many initiatives.

“We can thank our fans, dealers and the larger Chery family for making the With Chery With Love movement such a success. South Africans are a hearty bunch and always have an open hand for the needy.

“This has ensured that South Africa features high up on the countries that have embraced Chery and its With Chery With Love campaign and it has spurred us on to host many more of these Customer Events across South Africa,” says Bianca van Staden, National Marketing and Brand Manager of Chery South Africa.

For its first event, Chery chose a theme that was befitting of the Johannesburg environment. Guests met at Gold Reef City under the theme “Heart of Gold” and spent the day with the Chery team and a handful of customised Chery Tiggo Pro SUVs.

The day started with a red-carpet welcome, complete with gifts, snacks and entertainment that included a host of special treats for kids.

After the friendly welcome, the guests joined Chery South Africa’s team for an information session on what Chery has done in South Africa, all the benefits that Chery’s owners enjoy and the exciting future of the brand and its products in South Africa.

The morning also included a guided tour of the Gold Reef City mine, complete with a gold pouring demonstration, followed lunch and a special large-scale colouring event where young and old helped to draw and colour a large Johannesburg-themed Chery artwork. This participative art piece will now enjoy pride of place in the Chery South Africa offices.

After all the entertainment, guests were invited to participate in the theme park rides and have some leisure time. The festivities wrapped up with a give-away to the young ones in the audience, before each happy family and Chery friend left with a goodie bag in hand.

“We had so much fun treating our customers and dealers at our very first Customer Event. We will now take to the road to host families across the country at similar events, starting with Cape Town and KwaZulu-Natal.

“Chery fans can keep an eye on our social media channels for dates and times and they are welcome to share their happy Chery experiences using the #WithCheryWithLove tag,” says Van Staden.

Chery makes Nelson Mandela Day memorable for 80 children

Chery makes Nelson Mandela Day memorable for 80 children

A convoy loaded to the brim with goodie bags travelled to Pretoria today to participate in Nelson Mandela Day.

The convoy carried 80 bags of personal hygiene products and an equal number of snack packs with sweets, drinks and other treats. They collected this precious cargo at Chery South Africa’s Head Office in Bryanston for Save the Children in Pretoria as part of their contribution to this unique global day of philanthropy.

The donation to Save the Children is part of a national challenge to Chery dealerships to show their support of Nelson Mandela Day and their local communities. Dealers were invited to come up with unique ideas to support their communities, while Chery’s Head Office in Bryanston, Johannesburg, held its own internal collection drive.

“Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated across the world, and it is a true privilege to be able to support it in South Africa, the home of our late president, and his legacy of charity and leadership.

“In the run-up to Nelson Mandela Day, we asked our fast-growing network of dealers to support their own charities, and we did the same. We see it as part of our broader #WithCheryWithLove initiative, where we are actively building a community around our products,” says Bianca van Staden, National Marketing and Brand Manager of Chery South Africa.

This is not the first, nor the last time, that Chery will support local charity drives. The head office recently joined hands with owners and dealers to collect water and sanitary products for people who have been affected by the floods in KwaZulu-Natal. The collected products were dropped off at Chery dealers in the province who, in turn, used their own Tiggo Pro vehicles to distribute the products to the communities, old age homes and clinics around them.

In similar fashion, Chery used the South African media launch of its Tiggo 7 Pro to drop off donations at deserving charities in Johannesburg. In doing this, they were joined by journalists from across the country who attended the event.

“Chery’s #WithCheryWithLove campaign started small in China and has grown to a global movement that includes Chery dealers as far afield as Qatar, South America, Russia and, of course, South Africa.

“We are extremely proud of what we have achieved under this banner in South Africa in less than a year. Our dealer network, head office staff and most importantly, our Chery owners, have shown why South Africans are known for their charity and sense of community,” says Van Staden.

Save the Children is a global charity that focuses on the promotion of education, healthcare and child protection for needy children. The South African chapter was created in 2013 and has since been actively involved in the advocacy of relevant regulation, awareness of the plight of needy children in South Africa and direct support of children throughout the country.

To join the #WithCheryWithLove movement, visit Chery’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CherySouthAfrica. You can also donate to Save The Children at https://www.savethechildren.org.za/donate-2018.

Durbanite feels the Chery love with brand-new Tiggo

Durbanite feels the Chery love with brand-new Tiggo

The South African – Ziningi Sibisi – was surprised by a call to the beachfront stage after completing the Absa RUN YOUR CITY 10-kilometre race. She received the keys to a Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Urban worth almost R300 000.

Ziningi was one of the hundreds of runners who completed the RUN YOUR CITY race in Durban, a 10-kilometre race through the city organised by Stillwater Sports and supported by Absa and Chery South Africa. Stillwater and Chery co-sponsored the grand prize.

To stand a chance of winning the Tiggo 4 Pro, you simply had to enter the race and complete it. This means that any of the runners waiting at the end of the race stood a fair chance to drive away in the luxury Tiggo Pro.

“We want Chery to be much more than just your car of choice. We want it to be part of your lifestyle,” says Bianca van Staden, National Marketing and Brand Manager of Chery South Africa.

“With this in mind, we made it as simple as possible to stand a chance of winning the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. We also invited anyone in our community to enter the race and gave away a bunch of entries to make sure as many people as possible stood a chance of winning.”

The Absa RUN YOUR CITY road races are some of the most popular series on the road running calendar. The races are designed to introduce citizens in every location to highlights in their city, while creating a vibe all along the route and making it fun for both the runners, their families and supporters and anyone else who happened to join along the route.

“As Chery, we support this funky race series by providing logistics vehicles, the lead vehicle and entertainment along the route. In Durban, for instance, we created a watering point with dancing, music and a horde of supporters to give runners an extra boost for the last stretch of the race,” says Van Staden.

Chery entered South Africa in 2021 and immediately joined the global #WithCheryWithLove movement. This hashtag is the online presence of hundreds of activities by Chery dealers, fans and friends across the globe.

“ #WithCheryWithLove has taken on a life of its own. It includes updates from South African families who have taken to the road with their Tiggo Pro, dealers who have helped in their communities and runners at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY series who shared some road-running love.

“Ultimately, we want to be the brand that makes your active lifestyle possible. We invite all South Africans to share their fun activities and adventures as well as ideas for future Chery events using the #WithCheryWithLove tag,” says Van Staden.

The next Absa RUN YOUR CITY 10-kilometre run will take place on 24 September in Johannesburg.

Chery enters next phase with Fourth-Generation Powertrains

Chery enters next phase with Fourth-Generation Powertrains

Dubbed the 4.0 Era All-Domain Power Architecture, the new powertrain design promises world-leading levels of energy and thermal efficiency, low fuel consumption and low emissions. It also allows complete scope for a series of internal combustion engines, hybrid, electric and hydrogen powertrains under the same design principles.

“From a small manufacturer for the domestic Chinese market to a global powerhouse and the largest Chinese vehicle exporter, Chery has been accelerating non-stop into the future,” says Toni Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.

“Chery’s rapid acceleration is perhaps best seen in its powertrain technology. Since launching its first engine in 1999, Chery has created three generations of engines, won the China Heart Award for Chinese-designed and -built powertrains with nine different engines and built more than 10 million engines for vehicles across the world.

At present, Chery has three fourth-generation engines being developed. These engines are already in their bench calibration phase and will soon make their way to certain production models.

Chery has also finalised the design of its first fifth-generation engine and plans on finalising testing by 2024. This engine, a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine with hybrid power and direct injection, is being developed in partnership with AVL, one of the world’s largest engine development specialists.

The newest generation of Chery engines includes new technologies such as high efficiency combustion, low pressure adaptive turbochargers and so-called infinite friction reduction to create the best thermal efficiency possible.

Preliminary laboratory testing on these engines shows that they have already met their target of an industry-leading 45% thermal efficiency.

Integrated Powertrain Planning

One of the core tenets of Chery’s rapid engine development and success is the focus on incorporating all major drivetrain technologies in different, but simultaneous development programmes.

These technologies – petrol, diesel, hybrid, electric and hydrogen – not only ensure that Chery vehicles are future proof, but they enable the company to cross-pollinate each type of drivetrain with the technologies and developments from the other drivetrain lines.

One example of the benefit of co-developing different drivetrains is seen in the new DHT Dedicated Hybrid Transmission system.

The new DHT system incorporates dual electric motors, 11 gear combinations, dual driveshafts and 9 independently controlled driving modes to create the most efficient, smoothest and most immediate power delivery system.

The DHT hybrid project was first unveiled in May 2021, and by February 2022 the first version, the 3DHT125 hybrid powertrain, made its public debut in the new Chery Tiggo 8 Pro e+.

Shortly after the launch of the Tiggo 8 Pro e+, Chery announced that it had passed the appraisal stage of the Ministry of Science and Technology for the development of a hybrid engine that uses a deep Miller cycle high combustion process.

This additional powertrain will be used in mass production models, and the insights from this development process will be used to improve other drivetrains as well.

In March 2022, Chery announced a new three-gear hybrid transmission for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles. This new system, and an upcoming single-gear transmission, will be used in future Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles and will be ideal for compact and subcompact vehicles in this category.

Lastly, Chery is rapidly developing its pure hydrogen powertrain systems.

As far back as the World Manufacturing Convention 2019, Chery exhibited its third-generation hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles with 30kW fuel-cell stacks, which can be topped up with hydrogen in three minutes and run for more than 700 kilometers.

“Chery 4.0 Era All-Domain Power Architecture covers fuel, hybrid, electric and hydrogen energy, and basically every possible roadmap known for automobile power technologies in the next 30 years has been included. Next, we will follow a step-by-step strategy and gradually realise complete self-development of electric products,” said a Chery powertrain expert.

Tiggo 8 Pro leads global sales growth

Tiggo 8 Pro leads global sales growth

This new record for a Chinese vehicle manufacturer was confirmed after the final production and sales figures were published for April 2022. It represents a year-on-year increase of 12.6% in vehicle exports and reaffirms Chery’s position as China’s leading exporter of vehicles.

According to Chery’s official production, sales and export report, the company sold 55 588 vehicles on local soil and a total of 284 865 vehicles in the four months to April. This is almost 1% better than in the same period last year.

Chery’s sales success is spearheaded by the Tiggo range and particularly by the Tiggo 8 Pro, which has proven popular across the globe for its combination of innovative technology, modern design and proven durability.

The 500 000th current-generation Chery Tiggo 8 and Tiggo 8 Pro were produced on 26 April. It coincided with the group’s launch of the newest version of the model, the Tiggo 8 Pro e+. This model is fitted with Chery’s proprietary DHT Super Hybrid system, which offers best-in-class power and low fuel consumption.

In Chile, ANAC (Asociación Nacional Automotriz de Chile A.G.), the official industry body of the automotive industry, confirmed that Chery grew by 47% in April compared to the same month last year.

Chery has a market share of 17.4% in this market, and the Tiggo 2 Pro has been the top-selling SUV in this market for the past 15 consecutive months.

In Brazil, where Chery is the ninth biggest vehicle brand, the Brazil Fenabrave (National Federation of Distribution of Motor Vehicles) reported that Chery reached total sales of 12 863 in the four months to April.

The Arrizo 6 Pro has proven particularly popular in Brazil. It has a market share of 4.54% and is the fourth most popular vehicle in the sedan segment.

On the African continent, Chery has made waves. In Egypt, Chery’s sales jumped by 121% in April compared to the same month last year and by 27% over March 2022.

“While no manufacturer in the automotive industry has escaped unscathed from the current chip shortage and other COVID-19-related disruptions, Chery has been very proactive in keeping its customers informed and building as many vehicles as possible.

“We trust that when production and supply normalise in the second half of this year, we will see a significant jump in sales and new model introductions, both abroad and in South Africa,” says Tony Liu, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery South Africa.
